Ivomec classic pour on is an effective control and treatment for gastro-intestinal roundworms, lungworms, eye worms, warbles, lice and mange mites of cattle. The correct dosage for cattle is 1ml per 10kg bodyweight. The formulation should be applied along the mid-line of the back in a narrow strip between the withers and tailhead. Cattle should not be treated when hair or hide is wet. Rain falling on cattle in less than two hours after dosing may result in reduced efficiency. However, the efficiency of Ivomec Classic Pour-On against established infections of ostertagi or viviparus is not adversely affected if the hide is wet or if rain falls shortly after treatment. Do not apply to areas of skin which may have mange scabs or other lesions or to areas contaminated with mud or manure. Animals intended for human consumption should not be slaughtered until 15 days after last treatment. Do not use in animals producing milk for human consumption. Do not use in non-lactating dairy cows including pregnant heifers within 60 days of calving.
Studies
Beef cattle were housed and treated with either Ivomec Super or Ivomec Classic injection plus TRODAX (nitroxynil), or Triclabendazole (TCBZ) drench, or Ivomec Classic injection only (no flukicide). There were no significant differences in liveweight gain between the different flukicide groups and no cattle developed clinical signs of fluke infection. Flukicide treatment of animals that had positive fluke egg counts at housing resulted in significantly higher weight gain over the 112-day trial period compared with cattle that were not treated.
This led to the conclusion that treating animals at risk of fluke at the point of housing will ensure that animals benefit immediately from the production improvements associated with fluke control.
